RESEARCH

We investigate epigenome regulation in health and disease. Epigenetic mechanisms control genes and genomes without altering the DNA sequence. We are particularly interested in understanding how disruption of these mechanisms lead to neurological disorders.

Epigenetic remodeling in development and aging: Chemical modifications on DNA and histones dramatically change across the life span of animals. We are investigating the molecular mechanisms by which such changes are induced and maintained.

Environment and epigenetics: The epigenome responds to various internal and environmental cues. We are exploring how specific cues modulate epigenetic mechanisms and cellular pathways.

DNA methylation and disease: Mutations in regulators of DNA methylation are found in various diseases including cancer and brain disorders. We are studying how methylation functions in normal cells, and how dysregulation of methylation leads to disease states.
